Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, told Bisnis.com that the nation-wide target of 7 million foreign tourists in 2007 will be achieved, representing an increase of 9.3% over total arrivals in 2009.
In 2011, Indonesia is aiming for a 10% increase in arrivals fed primarily by visitors from Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Japan and China.
Explained Wacik, "actually our target for this year (2010) was 6.75 million, but we have achieved 7 million visitors."
Wacik told the press that the final figures for 2010 will reveal an average length of stay of 9 days and when foreign tourists are combined with domestic holiday makers the Indonesian tourism industry serves 200 million people each year.
Minister Wacik said he will formally announce tourism targets for 2011 during the last week of 2010.
