Bali's Hotel Public Relations Association (HHPB) hosted its "Hands for Merapi" Charity Bazaar creating a fun-filled day that raised millions of rupiahs for the victims of the recent volcanic eruptions of Mt. Merapi in Central Java held on Sunday, December 19, 2010.
The event, attended by hundreds and held at the Kuta Galeria Complex
from 9 am until 5 pm, was an overwhelming success managing to raise Rp. 38 million (US$4,200) via 116 stalls selling designer fashion wear, jewellery, spa products, ceramics and unique handicrafts in a relaxed marketplace setting stalls.
Raffle tickets for donated merchandise were also on sale with many visitors using the event to complete last-minute holiday shopping.
All proceeds from the charity bazaar will be donated to the victims of the recent Mount Merapi volcanic eruption, which killed and injured many people living in the mountain's shadow, also destroying family homes and valuable crops . HHPB
has joined forces with the Bali Tourism Media Association (BTMA), Bali's Fashion Designer Association (APPMI)
and Bali Community Care (KIP)
ensuring all funds reach the needy. A delegation of representatives are planning to Mount Merapi in early January 2011 in order to assess the situation and effectively employ the donation in projects connected with child welfare and education.
The excellent response has HHPB
considering hosting a similar in 2011.
