The Jakarta Post reports that Singapore and Indonesia have reached an agreement to cooperate in the development of cruise tourism among Indonesia's 17,568 islands.
Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for the Economy for Indonesia, recently met with Lim Hng Kiang, Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister in Jakarta.
Indonesia and Singapore have identified six economic sectors for joint development. In addition to cruise tourism - civil aviation, manpower, agribusiness, investments, and cooperation in the special economic zones of Batam, Bintan and Karimun have also been signaled out for attention.
Hatta pointed to the growing role of Singapore as a cruise center and his hope that the cruise tourism boom can be extended to other cruise areas in Indonesia, including Bali.
