Kompas.com has reported the fifth death of 2011 attributed to rabies, bringing their count to 121 deaths linked to the virus since the current outbreak began in late 2008.
The latest victim, I Ketut Sarga of Denpasar, was bitten six months ago by a neighbour's dog.
Sarga apparently failed to seek medical treatment following the attack, including the essential anti-rabies serum that can save the lives of those bitten by a rabies carrier.
Sarga died at Bali's Sanglah General Hospital on Saturday, January 15, 2011, twelve hours after his admission when he presented with acute symptoms typically associated with rabies.
