Gaya Art Space in Ubud, Bali presents Alex Valenzuela , in a solo exhibition of paintings and drawing "PUTRI NAGA KOMODO" or "Daughter of the Komodo Dragon" from March 11 through April 11, 2011.
Born in Manhattan, New York in 1979, Alex Valenzuela studied illustration and graphic design at the Academy of Art College San Francisco. After completing his studies in 2002, he traveled and worked in various locations, including: Bali, Tokyo , New York , Buenos Aires , Barcelona and London. Along the way, he fell in love with Bali.
The art works in the current exhibition are inspired by the people of the
Komodo National Park in Eastern Indonesia and their oral traditions, which are represented in the book
"The Dragon Princess of Komodo & Other Folktales." Alex has visited Komodo and immersed himself in the local culture, ensuring he caught the spirit of the people living in Komodo in an authentic way.
Fittingly, proceeds from the sale of the book, a lavishly illustrated collection of six traditional tales, go to support grass roots community projects in the park.
The exhibition will also presents performance art by Eugenia Carnevali of
Teatro san Martin performing as
Putri Naga Komodo in collaboration with Susan Allen and Susiawan presenting Komodo storytelling and music.
