The head of Bali's Tourism Office, Ida Bagus Kade Subhisku has announced that the total promotional budget allocated for Bali tourism in 2011 is Rp. 1 billion (US$111,000), a third of the Rp. 3 billion budgeted for 2010.
Subhisku said the money would be used for promoting both domestic and international tourism to Bali via trade shows and brochures.
Reacting to the announcement, the chairman of the Bali Tourism Board (BTB), I.B. Ngurah Wijaya, said the Rp. 1 billion budget made no sense. He called for 20% of the proceeds the government earns from hotel and restaurant taxes to be plowed back into promoting tourism in Bali.
