Bringing French Culture to Bali

French Film Festival and French Jazz Coming to Bali in April 2011.

(4/18/2011)

Courtesy of the Alliance française, Bali will have a rare chance to enjoy French Cinema and Jazz during the month of April 2011.

16th French Film Festival

World-class French films are making a grand tour of Indonesia during the 16th French Festival in Indonesia with visits to Jakarta, Balikpapan, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Denpasar (Bali).

"The Festival is a cultural event where the Indonesian audience can interact with French culture through films. This year, we are highlighting French-style romantic comedies, to show that French films can very well be fresh, funny, and entertaining", said Fréderic Alliod, Audiovisual Attaché of the French Embassy in Jakarta.

This will be the 12th year that the festival includes Bali in its national tour. Open to the public without charge, six films will be screened in DFS Galeria XXI at Simpang Siur from April 23-24, 2011, over a total of 10 screenings.

The films represent a wide variety of genres. Documentaries by renowned filmmakers will be featured: Les plages d'Agnès (The Beaches of Agnès)– the latest film of Agnès Varda, a legendary French female director; and La Danse, the Paris Opera Ballet by Frederick Wiseman - depicting star dancers of the Paris Ballet. Comedic films will also be on show, including :Les Mains en l'Air (Hands up), Ensemble C'est trop (Together's a crowd) and Erreur de la Banque en votre Faveur (Bank error in your favor). A drama based on a true story, La Fille du RER (The girl on the train) and an animated film Kerity, la Maison des Contes (Eleanor's Secret) will all be shown to Bali audiences.

Free passes are available at Alliance Française Denpasar, Jalan Puputan I, 13A, Renon. Telephone +62-(0)361-234 143 or at the theater (space permitting) on April 23 & 24, 2010.
