Best Western Kuta to Close

Bali Post reports that the Best Western Kuta has been given a final deadline of April 28 by which time all commercial operations must cease, their employees termination terms finalized and their doors shut.

The 111-room hotel built without zoning approval and operating without the required licenses and permits has been ordered "sealed" under a definitive order issued by the regent of Badung, A.A. Gde Agung (Keputusan Bupati No. 979/03/HK/201, and official order No. 158/2011).

Ketut Martha who heads the enforcement branch of the regency's administration held a meeting on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, with the region's judicial team to discuss the technical aspects and the timing of the hotel's final closure. Martha emphasized to the press that a cautious approach was being used in closing the hotel to minimize disruptions to guests and workers while at the same time protecting the image of the local tourism industry.

To achieve a smooth transition, Martha has asked the hotel to begin vacating all guests from the hotel four days prior to the final deadline of April 28th and to ensure the administrative rights of the hotels 217 employees are adequately  addressed.

Martha said he hoped the closure would proceed in a smooth and orderly manner, with all parties understanding the responsibility and duty of his department in carrying out the law.
