According to a report in Bali Post, the increasing presence of tourist transport operating illegally in Bali is angering both officials of the provincial Transportation, Information and Communication Service and the membership of the Bali Tourism Transport Association (PAWIBA).

To combat the problem officials have deployed an enforcement team to take stern steps against tourist transport operating outside their assigned routes, illegal rented vehicles and unlicensed taxis.

Said the chief of Bali transportation agency, Made Santha, on Monday, April 18, 2011: "Tourist transport from outside of Bali operating illegally in Bali will be ticketed. Moreover, these vehicles lacking legal Bali registrations will be sent back to their originating areas."

Santha blamed the illegal tourist transport in Bali with disrupting the operations of licensed transport operators. "We have called on provincial revenue officers to prepare clear guidelines on illegal non-Bali vehicles. In the past, the Transportation Agency (Dishub) has only been able to move if we caught the subject vehicles actually carrying passengers," Santha added.

In response to complaints from shuttle bus operators along Kuta beach who are blaming violations committed by tourist bus operators with causing traffic jams, Santha said he would leave the that problem to be handled by the Badung regency administration.

The head of the Bali Tourist Transport Association (PAWIBA), Bagus Soediana, stated earlier that tourist transport from outside Bali were clearly underselling local transport operators. Said Soediana, "if this is allowed to continue, the transport operators in Bali who remain diligent in obtaining the required operating permits will become 'lazy' in securing permits in the future."
