The National new service, Antara, quotes, I Gde Pitana, an official of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as rejecting claims from some quarters that Bali has reached the limits of its carrying capacity.
According to Pitana who once served as the chief of tourism for the province, Bali receives 2.5 million tourist each year, a number far less that the 11 million visitors to the another island destination – Singapore. Pitana believes Bali's ability to handle even more visitors is tied to a lack of adequate infrastructure, a insufficiency being addressed with new road projects and plans for a new airport in North Bali.
Bali's actual number of tourist arrivals, when domestic tourist are also included in the count, is closer to 6.5 million visitors in a single year.
