The province of Bali has pioneered the future face of tourism in Indonesian with the formation of the Association of Indonesian Tourism (Gabungan Industri Pariwisata - GIPI) - designated to be the umbrella organization of the island's number one industry.

The Chair of the GIPI Conference in Bali, Ratna Eka Soebrata, quoted by Antara, said: "The plan to form this new organization is in accordance with law number 10/2009 on national tourism. GIPI will become the new face for the leaders of tourism and the partner of the government.

Ratma explained that the Bali Tourism Board (BTB) took the initiative, based on the mandate provided under the new national tourism law to form GIPI-Bali.

"GIPi is the transformation of BTB. The management of BTB will be disbanded. Later, for English usage purposes, we will use the name 'Bali Tourism Board'' when referring to GIPI,  although in Indonesian we will use the name GIPI in confiormance with the new law," explained Ratna.

The formation of GIPI-Bali has been closely coordinated with the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, who wants the Bali tourism organization to become the template for tourism management in destinations across the country.

According to Ratna, who is also active in BTB, Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the Indonesian Professional Conference Organization (SIPCO),  the first conference of GIPI-Bali took place the UMA Meting Room at the Bali Safari and Marine Park on Friday, May 6, 2011.

GIPI-Bali, which is replacing  BTB as the umbrella organization for tourism in Bali, has adopted as its organizational theme the slogan "Tourism for Bali, Let us Stand Guard Together." Explaining the slogan, Ratna said: "We have to protect Bali in a sustainable way; this is our joint responsibility. This destination is the benchmark for (national) tourism and also the tourism gateway to Indonesia."

Ratna, who works as the Sales Manager of the Bali Taman Safari & Marine Park, added that she hopes whoever is selected to be the chairman of GIPI Bali will bring a desire to make Bali the best tourism destination in the world without sacrificing the cultural values and traditions that are in place.
