On Thursday, June 16, 2011, 41-year-old Englishman of Pakistan descent, Kuram Antonio Khan Garcia, got slammed with a 20-year-prison sentence by the Denpasar District Court for trying to smuggle methamphetamine through Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.
The panel of judges found Garcia guilty for trying to bring 2,818 grams of “crystal meth” in his luggage when disembarking from a Qatar Airways flight inbound from Doha on November 11, 2010.
Beritabali.com says the 20-year sentence and a fine of Rp. 1 billion (US$113,640) in lieu of an additional year behind bars match the sentence demanded by State Prosecutors.
The man, who lists hia employment as an agent for professional soccer players, has told the court he intends to appeal his sentence.
