Beritabali.com report that a 44-year-old Japanese tourist, Yao Noriyoshi, is now in police custody after being arrested with a marijuana and Hashish in his possession at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at around 10:00 p.m..
Yao was arrested as he was disembarking Singapore Airlines flight 948 on a ticket that started earlier that day in Osaka, Japan.
Officials became suspicious following examination of the man’s luggage by x-ray. Closer examination uncovered 3 grams of hashish wrapped in plastic bags and sealed with electrical tape. During the examination process, the man reportedly tried to abandon a 4-gram bag of marijuana on a seat he was occupying in the airport's custom office.
Underlining the danger of bringing drugs to Bali, the Japanese man now faces a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison or a maximum penalty of death by firing squad, depending on which section of Indonesia’s anti-narcotics law authorities decide to apply in the coming prosecution.
