Concert for Komodo

Free ‘Friends of Komodo’ Concert on Bali’s Kuta Beach, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

(7/11/2011)

On Saturday July 30, 2011, Bali’s Kuta Beach will play host to a free concert dedicated to the Indonesian Island of Komodo – a nature reserve that is home to the world’s largest monitor lizard.

“Friends of Komodo” is a concert open to the public without charge. The concert forms part of a nationwide "Komodo Awareness" campaign launched on July 1, 2011, intended to raise awareness of the need to conserve the many natural wonders found within the Komodo National Park and its surrounding environs.

The concert start at 6:00 p.m. as the sun sets over Kuta’s surf.

Scheduled to be broadcast on Kompas TV August 6, 2011, the concert will feature a number of leading musicians committed to protecting and preserving Komodo via their membership in “Friends of Komodo.”

Among those slated to perform are Dwiki Dharmawan, Dira Sugandi, Mercy Dumais and Sandhy Sondoro. Traditional performing groups from East Nusa Tenggara are also expected to grace the stage with the sounds of Indonesian’s eastern islands.

“Friends of Komodo” is a loose-knit group of leaders from State-owned enterprises, private businesses, media leaders, travel agents, celebrities and members of the general public who share a common concern for the conservation of Komodo.

Organizers say that Bali was chosen as the venue for the “Friends of Komodo Concert” because of its international reputations and its role as the gateway to Komodo via numerous daily flights connecting Denpasar to Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, Flores.

Organizers say other “Friends of Komodo Concerts” are planned for Sydney, Australia on September 9, 2011 and Chicago on September 23, 2011
