The relative peace and tranquility afforded to tourist visitors in the well-established seaside community of Sanur was disrupted when a 56-year-old Australian woman, Elizabeth Burnett, fell victim to a drive-by snatch thief on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
The woman was robbed while walking near Villa Golden on Jalan Kesari I/8 in Sanur when two men on a motorbike came up from behind, grabbed her handbag and made good an escape.
Inside the bag were cash and papers valued by the woman at Rp. 12.6 million (US$1,432).
Police theorize that the woman was stalked by the thieves prior to the robbery.
Although Burnett screamed for help while the two the men managed to use the crowded streets to get away.
Police continue to investigate.
