The Bali Police have outlawed the distribution of firecrackers and fireworks in anticipation of coming celebrations over the Lebaran holidays,
According to Beritabali.com, Bali’s chief of police, General Totoy Herawan Indra, outlawed the explosive items on Monday, August 8, 2011, On the same occasion, he called on members of the Bali police to socialize to the public the prohibition against the manufacture, possession, warehousing or ignition of most forms of firecrackers and fireworks.
Bali’s top policeman said that fireworks authorized for import or produced by the Intelligence and Security Department of the Police (Baintelkam) measuring less than 2 inches in length are exempt from the prohibition.
Meanwhile, fireworks measuring between 2 to 8 inches require permits to purchase and to use issued by police headquarters to facilitate shows and public events.
General Totoy warned that those found to be in possession of illegal fireworks would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
