The state news agency Antara reports that the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) is actively considering Bali for its annual conference.

Representatives from TAAI recently visited the Nusa Dua area of Bali to undertake an assessment of services and facilities for their coming conference.

TAAI is the largest travel association of India. Established in 1951, the association now has a membership database of 2,400 members comprised of travel agents, airlines, hotels and tour operators.

M. Igbal Mulia, the chairman of the TAAI, told Antara, “at this time we are undertaking a survey to determine the place for our annual members’ meeting.”

The TAAI team was welcomed in Bali by officials of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Bali Tourism Office, the Bali Guide Association (HPI), and the Bali Chapter of the Indonesian Congress & Convention Association (INCCA).

The TAAI has conducted similar surveys in Turkey and South Africa.

The TAII team was reviewing conditions and carrying capacity for the annual conference, hotels, security and supporting services to complement the hosting of their annual conference.

Mulia said he was impressed with the condition, atmosphere and natural beauty, and welcoming culture of Bali.

During the survey visit, the chairman of the Bali chapter of INCCA, Ida Bagus Surasana, told the press that that the facilities in Bali and Nusa Dua were perfect for the TAII conference. Said Surasana, known locally as Lolec, “international scale conferences are often held in Nusa Dua, supported by its international standard of starred hotels.”

Lolec added: “For meetings that require facilities for 5,000 to 10,000 people I feel we have the facilities. Meeting rooms are not a problem. Especially now that we have the large new Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC).”

Nyoman Wardana of the Bali Toursim Office also alluded to the growing number of Indian tourists coming to Bali each year. Wardana pointed out that from only 6,972 Indian tourist visits to Bali in 2005, that number has grown to 40,777 in 2010.
