A series of three strong earthquakes struck off the southwest coast of Bali during the night of Monday, September 3, 2102.
As reported by the National Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), two initial quakes hit at around 11:30 pm on Monday night, with one measuring 5.4 on the Richter. This was followed by a strong, third quake measuring 6.4 at 1:23 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
The quakes occurred at a depth of 18 kilometers with the epicenters scattered in a general area some 285 southwest of Denpasar, Bali.
No tsunamis were generated by the seismic events. And, while some in Bali were roused from their sleep by the earth’s shaking, no property damage or injuries were reported.
