Radar Bali reports that an inter-island ferry operating between Lombok and Padang Bai in Bali ran aground near the landing dock in Bali at 4:45 pm on Friday, September 7, 2012.
The incident, raising concerns on the overall safety of the inter-island ferry service between Bali and Lombok, is another in a series of groundings, with another incident occurring as recently as August 30, 2012.
The Rafelia II, with 187 passengers aboard, was unable to hold its course in strong winds, running aground during a low tide.
All passengers were safely evacuated to shore using local small boats while a tugboat was summoned to help bring the ferry to port where the vehicles and personal belonging of the passengers could then be landed.
The Rafelia II, captained by Herwansyah, had been in operation for approximately one month and is owned by PT Dharma Bahari Utama
Port authorities no injuries resulted from the ship running aground and that the personal property and vehicles on the ship were eventually safely brought ashore.
