Police in the North Bali regency of Buleleng have arrested a 55-year-old Dutch national, Jan Jacobus Fagel, in connection with the alleged sexual molestation of four under-aged girls. The sexual contact reportedly occurred in the Punggang community in the village of Kalisaem near Banjar.
Beritabali.com quotes the head of operations for the Buleleng police, Police Commissioner Ida Putu Wedanajati, who said: “The arrest of the Dutch national was done after we investigated information received from the public. This was followed by the man’s forcible arrest. There is a body of evidence supporting the charges against him.”
Police report that Fagel has been living in the Punggang community at Kaliasem for some time where he ingratiated himself with the area’s poor.
Police say the man would approach poor families, providing various forms of economic assistance. The alleged outrages against the four under-aged girls were performed without the knowledge of the girls’ families.
The ages of the girls ranged between 9 and 14 years.
Jan Jacobus Fagel who works as a volunteer in the community is being charged with sexual crimes. which, upon conviction, carry a penalty of between 3 and 15 years in prison.
He is being held by the Buleleng police.
