Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has made a special inspection tour of Bali to inspect meeting facilities and hotels that will be used during the coming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in October 2013.
The State News Agency Antara reports that the late March visit by the President is the second time he has personally inspected the facilities that will be used to welcome leaders from the entire Asia-Pacific, including U.S. President Obama and PRC Prime Minister Li Keqiang.
After touring facilities with a number of leading national policy makers, the president told the press: “The retreat location and supporting infrastructure, God willing, can be ready in time. I have viewed directly the current progress.”
Yudhoyono’s inspection tour extended beyond meeting venues and hotels and also included surrounding gardens. When he saw that surrounding garden were still barren, the President directed that plantings should continue apace with the physical construction of nearby buildings so gardens can be well established in time for the Summit.
Yudhoyono received assurances that the convention center connected to the now under-construction Sofitel Accor will be ready by the Idul Fitri Holidays in August. Reportedly, the physical construction of the building is nearing completion with detail and finishing work now underway.
He also inspected a presidential suite covering 500 square meters, personally ensuring that access roads will be suitable for presidential limousines or emergency vehicles.
President Yudhoyono told all in attendance that Indonesia needs to conduct a successful Summit to ensure world leaders will tell others of their experience and wish to visit the country again in the future.
Yudhoyono revealed that all visiting leaders would be provided Balinese-inspired clothing to be worn during a formal APEC photo gathering.
The APEC meeting is considered of critical importance in these trouble times with leaders discussing world economic recovery.
The meetings will be located at Nusa Dua at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center.
