Ironman champion Chris Lieto has confirmed that he will be racing on the Island of the Gods, in the Seventh Annual Biznet Bali International Triathlon on June 23, 2013. In addition to racing with athletes from around the globe, Lieto will use his Bali visit to raise money through the efforts of More Than Sport to provide much needed support and assistance to The Bali Sports Foundation.
More than Sport
was established by Lieto to assist local communities throughout the world by encouraging athletes and their friends to donate and support those in need. Charitable partners have included the YMCA, the Kona Community Hospital
and the Ray and Joan Kroc Center
in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. Past projects have included the purchase of a mobile classroom in Phuket, Thailand.
Funds raised at this year’s BIZNET Bali International Triathlon
will be used to purchase of sports wheelchairs for wheelchair basketball and other wheelchairs sports.
“I have been wanting to participate in this race for years and to partner with them to do more than sport by giving kids resources to participate in sport is amazing. My passion is to see athletes and races around the world doing more and it starts with races like this,” said Lieto.
Race Directors Brennan Lindner agrees. “We have consistently tried to support the local community, in the past giving to local orphanages, said Strom. Chris Lieto and More Than Sport present wonderful charitable partners for us in 2013,” said Lindner.
Lieto has agreed to participate in special events with those athletes and others willing to contribute significantly to More Than Sport.
These events include a post race-day breakfast with a limited number of contributing athletes the morning after the triathlon race to be hosted by Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay
. This event will feature one-on-one time with Lieto for those athletes who raise significant contributions as part of their Bali Triathlon race. Details to participate in this special breakfast and in other events will be announced soon.
