Although only set for formal opening and operations in June 2013, a single lane of traffic opened at Bali’s new Simpang Siur Underpass in Bali on Wednesday, May 8. 2013.
The projects executive officer told the local press that a one-way lane of traffic connecting Tuban and the Sunset Road is now open, with the lane in the opposite direction expected only to come on line when the President declares the road formally open in mid-June.
The tunnel project is the first underground traffic road built in Bali. The Underpass and a new suspended toll-way connecting Benoa – the Ngurah Rai Airport and Nusa Dua will both be formally opened in June as part of infrastructure preparations for the APEC Summit to take place in Bali in late 2013.
