BeritaBali.com and Bali Post both report that a 30-year-old Melbourne, Australian tourist, Frew Dunlop, has been apprehended by police from the Kuta police precinct for shoplifting at the Food Mart at Matahari Square.
The tourist, who police says has a listed address of Tasman Road, Greensborough, Melbourne, Victoria, was apprehended by a store employee with a bottle of locally produce wine costing Rp. 46,450 (US$4.65) concealed in a pocket.
Store employees say Dunlop acting suspiciously at around 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, while shopping at the food center.
Placing the Australian under surveillance, the customer was seen to place some items in a shopping basket and a bottle of local wine in a trouser pocket.
At check out, the item concealed in the pocket was not presented for payment.
Confronted after the cashier counter, the hapless Australian was turned over to Kuta police for processing.
The head of the Kuta Police Precinct, Agus Tri Waluyo, said that because of the small value of the items stolen the case would be processed as a misdemeanor crime.
