In a move to educate young Balinese about the risk of HIV/AIDS, Designers Against AIDS (DAA) are joining forces with the leading icons of video, fashion, music and other realms of entertainment to create a positive message of interest to young people on how to protect themselves and their sexual partners from HIV/AIDS.

Operating principally from the website [www.baliagainstaids.org] run by local Balinese activists and available in both Bahasa Indonesia and English versions, this platform will feature educational campaigns and outreach programs.

The website was developed by social activists working with DAA over the past months and will be maintainws by DAA with assistance of students based at their educational center in Belgium.

Also in the advances planning stage is a concert to be held in June of 2014 in downtown Denpasar featuring leading Balinese, national and international musicians.

Designers Against AIDS

Founded in 2001, Designers Against AIDS (DAA) seeks to educate youth about HIV/AIDS and safer sex practices. DAA recruits key fashion designers, musicians and celebrities with large fan bases among the younger generation to acts as spokespersons and instigate a continuing dialogue on responsible sex and personal health.

In 2006, DAA partnered with Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) to create yearly capsule collections and print, billboards, online campaigns banner of “Fashion Against AIDS.” Sold worldwide for 5 years, the campaign featured reasonably priced and issue-oriented pieces designed by Katy Perry, Rihanna, N.E.R.D., Timbaland, Yoko Ono, Ziggy Marley, Robert Smith (The Cure) and many others. DAA went on to partner up with Eastpak, Playboy Design, Marc Jacobs, Delvaux, JBC and Six Scents Perfumes – all sharing a theme of HIV/AIDS education.

In 2010 DAA launched an International HIV/AIDS Awareness Education Center (IHAEC). The training center in Antwerp, Belgium hosted students from around the world, sharing techniques on how to establish effective and creative HIV prevention campaigns, using DAA’s pop-culture-based methodology. The students are encouraged to build up equally successful campaigns in their respective home countries.
