The BALINALE International Film Festival returns for Bali October 4-10, 2013 celebrating the art of global cinema, presenting all genres of film at Cinema XXI located at Kuta Beachwalk in Bali.
BALINALE is an international film festival in Indonesia and recognized internationally for the quality and diversity of its programming and its professional delivery of the associated events. Known for its specialized knowledge and role in promoting the growth of the Asian and Indonesian film industry, BALINALE is associated with Asian Film Commissions Network and its 16 member countries.
BALINALE has also played host to an ASEAN Film Focus held during the 18th ASEAN Bali Summit and has been appointed to the Consulting Organization for the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (Brisbane, Australia) and ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards (Kuching, Malaysia).
This year’s BALINALE is the seventh edition of the Festival and coincides with the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bali. Many of the organization’s 21 member economies strongly support film industries and the importance of film as a means of promoting a destination and fostering the careers of the creative individuals and industries behind the scenes of each film project.
BALINALE serves not only as entertainment, but acts as an agent of economic growth by presenting Indonesia’s film industry, products and services through screenings, exhibition areas, promotional campaigns and distribution network.
International productions filmed in Indonesia supported by and/or featured in the festival, include; Sony Pictures Eat Pray Love (Bali); Universal Pictures Savages (Moyo); QED International Alex Cross (Bali), Magidson Films’ Samsara (Java and Bali); Warner Bros. Pictures IMAX Under the Sea 3D (Komodo) and Born to be Wild (Kalimantan).
BALINALE program of events for this year’s event include red carpet premieres, film Industry forums, exhibitions, children’s charity program and a year-long series of educational workshops conducted by award winning filmmakers.
The Mark Travis Directing Masterclass
will run from October 2-4, 2013. Travis is considered the “Director's Director” with over 30 directing awards; 60 plus productions in film, TV & theater; and lectures at more than 50 film schools.
Established in 2007 by Bali Taksu Indonesia Foundation, Award-winning Indonesian actor and filmmaker Christine Hakim and Bali Film Center director Deborah Gabinetti.
BALINALE presents fiction, documentary, feature and shorts from around the world. Programming comes from global submissions, international film festivals and associations. The festival serves as an important avenue for Indonesian filmmakers to present their work to a global audience, while inviting foreign filmmakers to screen their films and experience Indonesia for possible film projects and co-productions.
