Relaxed Italian Dining Comes to Ubud, Bali

Uma by Como Resort in Ubud, Bali Opens ‘Uma Cucina’

(8/19/2013)

Relaxed al fresco dining in the Italian tradition will come to Ubud – the cultural heart of Bali with the opening in September 2013 of “Uma Cucina” at the Uma by Como Resort.

An Italian-inspired restaurant and lounge bar, “Uma Cucina” offers an informal space where locals and hotel guests can gather for easygoing lunches, afternoon tea, early evening bites, aperitifs and evening meals on the open-air terrace.

Helmed by Australian-born executive chef Nicolas Lazzaroni, ‘Uma Cucina’ will have dishes devised by COMO’s Executive Chef Amanda Gale - best known for her healthful COMO Shambhala Cuisine, served at COMO’s flagship wellness resort, the nearby COMO Shambhala Estate, also in Ubud.

The menu is strong on fresh, locally sourced produce and the flavors of the Italian kitchen. Seasonal vegetables, seafood and slow-cooked meats are rendered as colorful, easygoing options, perfect for sharing with friends. House specialties include handmade pastas, cheeses and sausages, wood fired pizzas and breads, as well as classic Italian gelatos and granitas.

Destined to become favorite dishes at “Uma Cucina” are grilled sardines with sweet and hot peppers, garganelli with fresh yellow fin tuna and rosemary ragu and wood-roasted suckling pig with fennel confit.

Designed by Cheong Yew Kuan, the architect who created the legendary COMO Shambhala Estate,Uma Cucina” offers and atmosphere that is both informal and fun, with a large communal dining table at the heart of the space reflecting the homely ‘kitchen’ spirit behind the restaurant’s name. Additional seating at scattered dining tables spill out onto the open-air terrace and lounge bar.

Uma Cucina will be open daily for lunch from 12 noon to 3.30 pm and for dinner from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm.
