The State News Agency Antara reports that for the period January – August 2013 a total of 122 incidents were handled by Bali’s Lifeguard Service (Balawista), including 8 deaths by drowning
The coordinator for Balawista in Bandung regency, I Ketut Ipel, commenting on achievement of the first eight months of 203 said: “The Balawista have managed to save 104 lives, domestic and foreign tourists enjoying Bali’s beaches and rolling surf for swimming and surfing.
Reviewing the same period in 2012, there were 116 incidents during which 105 people were saved and 11 drowned.
The most recent fatal drowning incident involved a 57-year-old man from Medan, North Sumatra. Panda L. Toruan, who drowned while surfing near Dreamland Beach at Uluwatu, South Kuta.
