The Denpasar Municipal Enforcement Agency (Polisi Pamong Praja) are threatening to close and seal the doors of the new McDonald’s Restaurant on Jalan Teuku Umar Barat for operating without the needed permits.

DenPost reports that Denpasar authorities told the fast food operation to cease operations on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, an order the establishment has apparently chosen to ignore.

The chief of Polisi Pamong Praja, Alit Wiradana, told DenPost  that on August 14, 2013, the owner of the restaurant was formally summoned to prove the required operating permits and licenses were in hand.

That inspection, however, revealed that the owner was unable to show a single permit. “The management has signed a declaration promising to cease all activities. If the sales of food is taking place that means the management has broken its pledge made only a few days before,” said Wiradana.

Wiradana said the management of the illegal restaurant asked for five days to pack and move all the fittings of the restaurant to a new location. In response, the Polisi Pamong Praja gave the restaurant 7-days for the management to sweep clean the venue of all fittings, including branding and logos, warning they would seal the premises if their orders were not followed by Monday, August 19, 2013.

Wiradana describe the attitude of the McDonald’s management as very cooperative when they were called and ordered to vacate the restaurant, which has been the object of numerous complaints from the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, the head of the Coordinated Licensing Bureau for New Investments for Denpasar, A.A. Gede Soryawan, told the press that the new McDonald’s restaurant had filed a request for an operating permit that was still under review with members of his team reviewing the application and checking the location.

Soryawan said the permit process takes time as permits and licenses must be coordinated with the relevant government agencies. Before the licenses are in hand, Soryawan said urged the Polisi Pamong Praja to take firm actions against McDonald’s any other business operating without the necessary permits.
