Liputan 6 TV quotes the leader of the Islamic Defender Front (FPI), Habib Rizieg Shihab, saying: “FPI rejects Miss World. Reject Miss World! Reject Miss World!”

The formal cancellation of the Miss World Competition in Indonesia forms part of a platform of policies agreed during just complete Third National Congress (Munas III) of the FPI.
“We ask the Miss World 2103 be denied a permit. In accordance with our anniversary (August 25), we’ll held big demonstrations to let the Government know that every province of Indonesia is unwilling to be dirtied by sin that will endanger them to the wrath of God,” said Shihab on Sunday, August 25, 2013.
He continued, warning the government not to “twist the facts” by claiming it is only the majority Muslims that are refusing the 2013 Miss World Competition. He claimed that this was the tactic of the government in granting permission for the event to be held in Bali that has a Hindu majority.
“But the government must understand that Bali is a part of Indonesia, don’t try to make Bali an Island of evil that sins against God’s word. Bali is a part of the Sovereign Nation of the Republic of Indonesia,” said the former chairman of the FPI.
The Miss World Competition will be held in Bali during the first week of September with the final gala evening to be held in Bogor, West Java.
