21 recent graduates of the Bali International Flight Academy (BIFA) in Buleleng, North Bali, have formally signed on as cockpit crew with the Indonesian national carrier Garuda Indonesia.
Graduates of a 16-month training program that earned them a private pilots license, commercial license and instrument rating - the new crop of pilots will spend an additional six months of “type rating” before being allowed to join the cockpit crew on a Garuda flight.
Quoted by The Jakarta Globe, Novijanto Herupratomo, Garuda’s director of operations said: This cooperation with BIFA is really helpful for Garuda Indonesia’s future expansion program, especially in meeting demand for pilot human resources. This is in line with Garuda’s fleet development plan.”
The BIFA chairman, Robby Johan, told the press that BIFA has produced 280 pilots for Garuda since 2010.
