With the formal inauguration of Bali’s new toll road connecting Benoa to Nusa Dua just days away, the road is still lacking an official name.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to formally open the road on Thursday, September 12, 2013.
A number of names have been recommended for the roadway including the names of Indonesian historical figures to now-deceased champions of the Balinese arts. One local pundit has even suggested the unlikely choice of “Bali-Hai Way.”
The head of the toll road project, Hidayatullah, told a media gathering on Friday, September 6, 2013, “A number of names for the road have been recommended to the President by the governor and regent,”
He said the names recommended to the President did not preclude the possibility that the President would select a name entirely to his liking.
The road has undergone safety and standards testing and certified as 100% ready for use.
The road, claimed by the government, to the most beautiful in Indonesia, will do much to smoothen the conduct of the APEC Summit in early October at which 21 national delegations, including over 15 heads-of-state, will attend.
