The Jakarta Post (Bali Daily) reporst that a pier will soon be constructed for use by the many boats operating from Sanur Beach to the Nusa Penida Islands.
Plans for the new wharf were confirmed by Gede Astika of the Denpasar Transportation Agency, following the completion of a feasibility study conducted by the City.
The pier is to be used by the small ferry boats that embark and disembark passengers on Sanur Beach, not far from the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel.
Funding will come from the Central Government in Jakarta.
Technical plans for the pier are in the process of being drawn up preliminary to the commencement of a formal biding process.
Tens of boats depart every day from Sanur ferrying locals and tourist visitors to the three islands that comprise Nusa Penida: Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.
Plans for the pier form part of a larger development plan for Sanur, which has been designated as a Strategic National Tourism Area (KSPN) by the national government. Among the other improvements planned for Sanur are jogging tracks, a dedicated area for souvenir shops and a waste management system.
