A meeting between the Airport Traders Association (P2B) and PT Angkasa Pura I, mediated by Bali’s Deputy Governor Ketut Sudikerta, has achieved a measure of success in resolving the ongoing dispute between Balinese traders at Ngurah Rai International Airport and the airport’s management.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between the Airport Authority and P2B providing 50 new shop spaces at the airport. The Head of the 9th Udayana Military Command and the Chief of Police for Bali witnessed the formalization of the MOU.

Sudikerta told Radar Bali that the parties had reached an understanding on the location for the kiosks within the airport and the 50 spots will be activated in stages as completion of the airport permits.

The chairman of P2B, Wayan Sukses, confirmed an agreement was in hand. The 50 places allocated to the 121 member P2B, while inadequate to the ideal number required, Sukses said his members would merge their operations to ensure everyone gets space to trade.

Meanwhile the general manager of PT Angkasa Pura I, Purwanto, said the 50 spaces for the P2B members would be realized in stages between now and April 2014 when all aspects of the arrival and departure terminals are finally completed.

Prior to coming to terms with PT Angkasa Pura I, P2B had threatened mass demonstrations at the airport before the end of September.
