A 38-year-old expatriate male, Toby Lord, has been found dead on the sofa of a villa at Jalan Merta Agung No. 20 in Kerobokan, North Kuta.

The man, whose body was discovered early on Sunday morning, September 29, 2013, has been alternatively identified as an American or an Australian in various Indonesian media outlets.

When an ambulance and police responded to the scene, they discovered Lord’s body lifeless on a sofa in the living room of the villa and an unconscious female companion, 36-year-old Spaniard Sara Macule Olalde, in an adjoining bedroom.

The woman was rushed to the Bali International Medical Center Hospital (BIMC) where she is reported to have regained consciousness and will soon be interviewed by police.

The cause of Lord’s death and the woman unconsciousness remain under investigation by police.

According to Radar Bali, Indonesian police cannot confirm the cause of the man’s death. Police did confirm, however, there were no signs violence on the bodies of the two people or at the villa. Opened alcoholic beverages were found near the man’s dead body together with a medical syringe, fueling suspicion in the local media that an overdose of alcohol and/or drugs might be involved.

Police says forensic tests on the site, the dead man’s body and interviews with Olalde will soon allow them to obtain a clearer understanding of what actually transpired at the villa.
