Will U.S. Budget Shutdown Scuttle President Obama’s Visit to APEC in Bali?
U.S.A. Today suggests that the shut down of the U.S. government resulting from lawmakers’ inability to approve a new federal budget, could put President Barack Obama’s visit to Bali to attend the APEC Summit in jeopardy.
The White House has President Obama scheduled to leave Andrew Air Force Base on Air Force One on Saturday, October 5, 2013 for a one-week trip to Bali for APEC, Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines.
White House spokesman Jay Carney has told the press corps that the trip is still on, but acknowledged plans could change as the week unfolds.
U.S.A. Today says that if the budget impasse remains unresolved as he wings off to Asia, it could prove politically problematic for him to continue the trip.
