As part of the security umbrella in place for the APEC Summit
underway in the south of the Island, the Regency of Buleleng in Bali's far north is under tight security stretching from the port of Gilimanuk to the borders between the regencies of Karangasem and Klungkung.
The APEC Summit
will bring leaders from 21 countries to Bali October 1-8, 2013.
According to the State News Agency Antara,
police and military personnel are maintaining a tight watch on ports, shorelines and even back trails across North Bali in anticipation of anyone who might wish to disrupt the world summit.
The chief of the 1609 Military Command
in Buleleng, Lt. Col. Nugroho, said: “Up until now, we have yet to encounter any suspicious circumstances, not even on the back roads. Security remains under our control.”
While police and military maintain a watch on ports and road, a simultaneous program of checking the documents on migrants from other parts of Indonesia present in underway in Bali’s northernmost regency.
