The Denpasar District Court has sentenced an Iranian national to one year in prison after being found guilty of smuggling 5.44 grams of marijuana through Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Republika.co.id reports the verdict handed down on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, found Anthony Simonian Kordolia Alexander (30) had violated the National Narcotics Act.
The verdict of the panel of judges was less that the five years and Rp. 1 billion fine sought by prosecutors.
Customs Officials arrested the Iranian on April 7, 2013 at the Airport after disembarking a flight from Kuala Lumpur.
In handing the man the lighter sentence, Judges noted that the Iranian had been polite throughout the course of the trial, but at the same time weighed that Alexander has damaged the image of Indonesia.
