Bales of Trouble

Police Arrest Indonesian Man in Kuta with More than 10 Kilograms of Marijuana

(11/15/2013) A 28-year-old Indonesian man has told police that the more than 10 kilograms of marijuana he was caught bringing from Riau, Sumatra to Bali was intended for sale to tourists in the Kuta area.

Quoted in DenPost, Abdi Gultom told police: “The grass I sent to Kuta I bought in Riau for Rp. 2.5 million per kilogram. Later, in Bali I would break it down into more than 250 packets each sold for Rp. 200,000.”

By extension, Gultom was positioned to earn a 20-fold return on his original investment with a total turnover of more than Rp. 500 million (US$43,500).

Gultom told the police on Sunday, November 10, 2013, that he planned to sell the drugs to domestic and foreign tourists in the Kuta area of Bali.

Bali Police are now trying to uncover what network, if any, Gultom used to market and distribute the drugs.

Gultom was arrested with 22 packages of marijuana on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, on Jalan Mataram Gang Suli I in Kuta, Bali. When police later searched his rented room on Jalan Rangsana, Pesanggaran in South Bali, they found more drugs bringing the total amount of marijuana in the man's possession to 10.48 kilograms.
