Spicing Up the Chinese Market to Bali

Garuda Preparing in 2013 to Add Chengdu, China as Fourth Chinese City with Direct Flights to Bali

(11/28/2013) Garuda Indonesia is planning to commence direct flight services from Chengdu in Sichuan Province, China in 2014.

I Wayan Subagia, vice-president of Garuda Indonesia in China, told China Daily, "Discussions are under way and if things go smoothly, the new route will open in the middle of next year."

Garuda is rapidly expanding its business base in China. Emirsyah Satar, CEO of Garuda Indonesia said: "We have been setting great store in the Chinese market which has great potential.”

Garuda’s head office in Mainland China is located in Shanghai overseeing operations and sales for its flights already operation to Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

Garuda maintains a separate office for its flight from Hong Kong S.A.R..

In 2013 some 800,000 Chinese travelers visited Indonesia, a number expected to touch 1 million in 2014.

Through the end of September 2013 a total of 302,324 Chinese tourists came to Bali, a figure that had grown 28.6% over the same period in 2013.

China is now the second largest source of foreign tourists to Bali after Australians.
