On Friday, December 20, 2013, Garuda introduced WiFi services on its flight GA 406 from Jakarta to Denpasar (Bali) and Garuda 886 Denpasar to Haneda (Japan).

As reported by Bisnis.com, the director of services for Gaurda Indonesia, Faik Fahmi, said connectivity service on Airbus 330 duplicates a similar service already in place on the Airline’s Boeing 777-300 ER fleet.

Fahmi said the expansion of connectivity services forms part of Garuda’s efforts to expand its service to the public, especially on medium and long-haul routes.

Commenting further, Fahmi said: “This development is in keeping with the ‘New Service Concept’ being implemented by Garuda. First Class has been reintroduced, while service to Business Class and Economy has been upgraded.”

Connectivity service allows all classes of service on the designated flights to stay on-line via WiFi connections whilst in flight.

The new service is the result of cooperation between Garuda and Telkom.

Current Indonesian regulations only allow WiFI connectivity when a plane is operating at altitude exceeding 10,000 feet.

Initially, the new service is being introduced on three Airbus A330-200 and one Airbus A330-300 aircrafts operated by Garuda Indonesia. Plans are to eventually install the service on all Airbus A330s operated by the Indonesian national carrier.
