Head of Parking Authority at Bali Airport Gets Record High Prison Sentence

(5/11/2014) The trial of Chris Sridana, the CEO of PT Penata Sarana Bali (PSB) – the parking authority at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport was given the highest sentence ever handed down in any corruption trial in Bali on Monday, May 5, 2014.

Sridana faced the three-judge panel that found him guilty of corrupting Rp. 28 billion (US$2.4 million) that they punished with 15 years in prison. In addition, he received a fine of Rp. 1 billion (US$87,000). Failure to pay the fine will delay any remissions in his sentence and add 3 months to his sentence.

The Court also ordered Sridana to pay retribution amounting to Rp. 28 billion (US$2.4 billion) to the Nation. Failure to pay the compensation will cause the State to confiscate all the man’s assets. If his assets are insufficient to pay the compensation, an addition three years will be added to his sentence.

In handing down the record high sentence the judges determined that Sridana played a central role in the corruption and found little to mitigate the sentence.

In earlier trials conducted in the Denpasar Court related to the parking authority corruption subordinates of Sridana – Indrapura Barnoza, Rudi Jhonson Sitorus and Mikhael Maksi each received prison sentences of 10 years and fines of Rp. 1 billion each.
