Province Working to Increase Tourist Visits to Batur Volcanic Museum at Kintamani

(9/10/2017) The State News Agency Antara reports that foreign tourists dominate visitors to the Batur Volcanic Museum (Museum Gunungapi Batur) at Kintamani, Bangli Regency, saying the desire of domestic tourists to visit the educational center on volcanoes is only a fraction of the interest shown by foreign tourists.

The Museum coordinator, Desak Made Andariyani said on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, said: “The majority who visit the museum are foreigners. Domestic tourists are seldom interested, but, in fact, our desire is to become an educational center on volcanoes for both locals and foreigners.”

Operated by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Museum receives between 40 – 100 international visitors each day.

Meanwhile, domestic tourists are approximately half this number.

To increase visits by domestic visitors, the Provincial Government invited members of the press to visit the Museum on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

The Museum’s management has also made admission to the Museum free-of-charge to encourage more visitors.

The Museum covers 1.09 hectares with a number of interactive displays on the Batur volcano and volcanoes in general.
