Swiss Woman’s Body Found in Ubud River

Police Think Swiss Woman Slipped in High Grass and Fell to Her Death in Wos Rover in Ubud, Bali

(2/11/2018) A 48-year-old Swiss woman, Brunett Martina, has been found in the Tukad Wos rive in Kedewatan, Ubud, on Saturday, February 10, 2018. and NusaBali quotes police in Ubud, who say interviews with witnesses at the Ulun Ubud Hotel, where the woman was staying, suggest peculiar behavior on the woman's part prior to her sudden disappearance. Guests and staff said the woman acted in a confused and disoriented manner wandering alone in tall grass near the hotel.
Martina was scheduled to check out of the hotel on Friday. When staff became concerned that the tourist had not reported to reception, they visited her room to find it in a locked condition with the woman’s belongings still inside.
Police were notified and a search commenced that ended with the discovery by a local resident of Martina’s body among rocks on the edge of the nearby Wos River. The steep banks at the point on the river where the body was found posed challenged to search and rescue workers who needed several hours to evacuate the corpse.
Police continue to investigate the case but believe the woman may have slipped on the banks of the river and fallen to her death. The body is undergoing forensic examination at Bali’s Sanglah Hospital while police continue their investigation.
