Fugitives No More

Fugitive German and Indonesian Wife Captured by State Prosecutors to Start Serving Prison Sentences Handed Down in Bali Property Scam

(4/15/2018) Prosecutors in Bali have taken into custody Gilbert Hild, a German, and his Indonesian wife, Ismayati, who were previously sentenced to prison by a South Jakarta Court in connection with the fraudulent transaction involving Rp. 8.5 billion invested in a villa project in Negara, Bali.

The arrest of the couple was made possible through the efforts of intelligence officers for the Attorney General’s Office working in cooperation with the South Jakarta and Gianyar Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Detik.com reports that the couple surrendered without a struggle at their residence in the village of Petulu in Ubud. The couple will now be flown to Jakarta accompanied by enforcement offices from the Attorney General’s office.

The couple had been convicted of committing fraud and were  sentenced to 3.5 years in prison in a sentence later affirmed by the Supreme Court.

The arrest of the couple was part of a Government program code named “Catch the Fugitive” (Tankap Buron) that mandates every Attorney General’s office across Indonesia capture a minimum of one fugitive each month. The program has managed to capture 65 fugitives from the law since its inception.
