YCAB Foundation, as one of the beneficiaries of the 1250-kilometer journey, has utilized the fund to build “Rumah Belajar” (House of Study) for underprivileged children and high school dropouts in Kintamani, Bali.

Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson” represents one of several community projects made possible through the fund raising run between Bali and Jakarta of Scott Thompson that took place from March 8 to April 1, 2012.

The “Rumah Belajar” in Kintamani is a collaborative effort between the YCAB Foundation (The Foundation for the Nation’s Children) and the Cempaka Putih Foundation who provided the land for the facility in Songan village, Kintamani, Bali.

The Founder/CEO of the YCAB Foundation, Veronica Colondam stated that the location of Rumah Belajar in Kintamani was based on a needs assessment study carried out by the team and forms part of a commitment to use 100% of the funds from “Berlari Terus: Bali-Jakarta” for Indonesian youth education.

Additional “Rumah Belajar Scott Thompson” will be established in Jakarta and two other cities that will be chosen from among the 30 cities that Scott has passed through during his fund-raising run.

The four “Rumah Belajar” will provide digital inclusion classes granting certificates for the drop out and underprivileged children completing the program. An anticipated 450 underprivileged children per center or a total of 1,800 children for all 4 Rumah Belajar will benefit from this program.

Future course in hospitality skills for cafes and restaurants will be conducted at the four “Rumah Belajar” to create employment opportunities for Indonesian youth.

Commenting at the opening of the Bali facility, Scott Thompson said: “This Rumah Belajar is only possible through the amazing support I received on my Bali to Jakarta fund raiser and can't thank everyone enough for getting behind the charity run. The opening of this Rumah Belajar makes the sweat and effort of my run feel so worthwhile and doubly thrilled with something as tangible as this learning centre. I'm convinced it will make a positive impact towards youth education in this very special part of Bali.”
