Bali Transport Operators Seek a Hike in Rates

Pawiba Calls for Review of Tourism Transport Prices in Bali Once Every Two Years

(3/24/2013) The Jakarta Post (Bali Daily) reports that the Bali’s Tourist Transportation Association (Pawiba) is seeking to increase the tariff for tourism transport in Bali from levels that have remained largely static since 2005.

Pawiba’s chairman, Bagus Soediana, said:

“Eight years have passed, but the tariff has never been changed, while the price of fuel, spare parts, the minimum regional wage and other production factors have increased.”

Soediana contends that the tariff for tourism transport should be reviewed once every two years, adding: “Lately, price fluctuations have been quite high. Maintenance expenses are not cheap, while we need to renew our fleet at least every five years.”

Pawiba has 130 members – all comprised of companies operating tourist transport in Bali responsible for a fleet of 1,000 buses and 5,000 mini-vans.
