Garuda‘s Fleet to Grow to 194 Planes by 2015

Garuda’s Quantum Leap Program Providing Indonesian Carrier with a Large and Very Young Fleet of Aircraft

(3/28/2013) The State News Agency Antara reports that Garuda Indonesia will import 24 new airplanes as part of its ongoing Quantum Leap Program.

Emirsyah Satar, CEO of Garuda Indonesia, said: “The increased synergy (of Garuda) is due to the operational expansion of the company as part of the Quantum Leap 2011-2015 program."

He revealed that the 24 new airplanes will include four Boeing 777-300ER, three Airbus A330, ten Boeing 737-800NG and seven Bombardier CRJ1000 Next Generation.

By the end of 2013, Garuda is estimated to be operation an armada of 104 aircraft with an average aircraft age of 4.2 years. By the end of 2015 the size of the fleet will increase to 194 planes.

As part of the National Carrier's network expansion program, additional air hubs are being established in Makassar (South Sulawesi) and Medan (North Sumatra).

During 2013 Garuda will open 13 new domestic routes that will include Bandung-Denpasar, Denpasar-Balikpapan, Batam-Pekanbaru, Balikpapan-Banjarmasin, Balikpapan-Manado, Balikpapan-Berau, Jakarta-Bengkulu, Jakarta-Tanjung Pandan and Jakarta-Tanjung Pinang.

Internationally, Garuda Indonesia will open new routes: Jakarta-London, Medan-Penang, Surabaya-Singapore, Denpasar-Bangkok, Denpasar-Brisbane and Denpasar-Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, a cooperative agreement with Etihad Airways that commenced in January 2013 has connected Garuda to six new destinations in Europe and the Middle East that include Frankfurt, Brussels, Milan, Dusseldorf, Munich and Bahrain.

In 2012, Garuda began operating new international routes of Denpasar-Haneda (Japan) and Jakarta-Taipei.

Also in 2012 in cooperation with Etihad Airways, Garuda opened service to Abu Dhabi, London, Paris, Manchester, Moscow, Athena and Muscat.
