Governor Opens International Hindu Youth Conference in Bali

(4/1/2013) On Friday, March 29, 2013, Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika opened the World Hindu Youth Conference in Bali attended by delegations from 16 countries.

Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, the Governor, in opening the conference, said: “I welcome the holding of this meeting as part of a larger effort to enhance spiritual commitment."

The conference in Bali was attended by 125 delegates from 16 countries and ran from March 29 – 31, 2013.

Pastika said he saw the conference has having an important significance to the Hindu youth of the entire world. “Through this activity, the Hindu youth from many nations can discuss and share their experiences in an effort to advance Hinduism generally,” said Pastika.

Pastika said he hoped that the spiritual vibe generated from the conference and the island of Bali can serve as an inspiration to participants to develop brilliant ideas and concepts.

He underlined that the holding of the event while Bali is celebrating the religious holidays of Galungan and Kuningan should provide an added impetus to both the gathering and its results. Said Pastika, “The Balinese Hindu have just celebrated Galungan as a moment in which dharma (goodness) triumphs over adharma (evil).”

Quoting from divine Hindu scripture, Pastika told the young delegates: “Rise up Arjuna, abandon your reluctance, stand up and confront them.” The Governor explained that the subject passage beckons the young generation of Hindus to face their future, adding, “The future of Hinduism is in the hands of the young generation.”
