Expect Delays

Indonesian Government Warns that Baliís Airport will Be Closed for Periods during APEC Conference October 5-9, 2013 to Facilitate Movements of Heads of State

(6/29/2013) As reported by The Jakarta Post, people visiting Bali during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) in early October 2013 can expect Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport to be closed for brief periods of time to accommodate VIP flight movements for the many heads of state expected in Bali.

The Indonesian Transportation Ministry has confirmed that Commercial flights will be diverted or delayed between 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on October 5 & 6, 2013 and again on October 8 & 9, 2013 as VIPs arrive and depart the Island.

Ministry spokesman, Bambang S. Ervan, said: “Whenever we host large conferences or meetings, we need to adjust the air slots because important people are going to attend and they need clearance, one hour before and after [their flights]. We have communicated this issue with every airline operating in the country so that they can make new arrangements for their flights.”

Official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) have been issued to the worldwide aeronautical community advising of the planned closures and advising pilots and airlines to adjust their flight plans accordingly.

So many private jets carrying Heads of State to Bali are expected that special arrangements have been made for visiting aircraft in Surabaya and Lombok due to the lack of parking space.

APEC is expected to see delegations from 23 countries in attendance traveling to Bali to economic and trade cooperation.
